who’s ready for fall sessions?

It’s time, the “ber” months have arrived and high school seniors everywhere are preparing for their senior portrait sessions. (Our household included.)

What makes fall such a popular time for senior portraits? I’d love to give you a long, technical answer, but the truth is, it’s the leaves. It’s the leaves and the more temperate weather.

It’s a time to try out new sweaters and layers, and is a welcome change of pace after the hot weather of summer.

Have you scheduled a senior session for this fall? Let’s chat about how you can prepare for it.

Senior Session planning tips

Senior Session planning tips 〰️

  1. Be prepared for any type of weather. It could be warm, it could be cold, it could be sunny, it could be cloudy. If you dream of a session with clear skies and colorful leaves and nothing else will do, be transparent with your photographer from the beginning. They’ll likely schedule a back up date for you in case the weather on your given date doesn’t work for you. Senior portraits are an investment, you deserve to get the session you’re envisioning.

  2. Try and be flexible. We prep as much as we can and prepare for lots of things, but there’s only so much we can control. If the weather is extremely windy or if we’re dealing with rain or drizzle, we’ll likely want to move to a back up date. Know that your photographer knows what will work for a session and what won’t. Trust me when I say, we won’t postpone unless absolutely necessary. Our schedules are booked to the max in the fall, we want every session to go as planned.

  3. Choose seasonally appropriate outfits. Choose fabrics and colors that work well for the fall colors that will surround us. I recommend earth tones and darker colors as well as heavier fabrics. Now is not the time to pull out your favorite summer dress or anything brightly colored.

  4. Relax and have a good time. Your senior session only happens once. If you’re looking forward to it, it will fly by. If you’ve been nervous about it, your photographer will do their best to help you relax and make it a pleasant experience for you. We’ll work together to make sure that you get portraits that document who you are as a person right now, in this amazing transition time in your life!
