my latest film scans
I know, I know. I don’t shut up about film.
The obsession is real and for the time being, fairly healthy. Until the point where the cost of my film and lab costs becomes a problem, my obsession will continue.
Why do I love film photography? Why love something that is much more challenging than digital, has way less flexibility, and could possibly lead to me spending money on absolute garbage?
Film photography forces me to be a better photographer.
Film makes me pay attention to light. And composition. And with a manual focus film camera, it makes me pause and take a moment before clicking the shutter to make sure my subject is properly in focus.
It’s quieter, less rushed and simpler yet way more complicated.
When my scans arrive, they instantly look like I’ve already spent hours on edits. But, I haven’t. That’s the beauty of film. As a digital photographer who edits her images to mimic film, it speaks to my soul.
Plus, with film, you occasionally get some unexpected double exposure images that are puzzling yet fascinating at the same time. How did that even happen??
And even the photos that aren’t perfect, somehow are.
The obsession continues. My film cameras are loaded with fresh rolls of film, let’s see what the next batch brings.
