Caylee, how can she be a senior? I’ve known this girl since she was a young one dancing in all the classes at Studio 9. She has a personality that instantly puts you at ease and spending time with her has always been something I’ve loved.

We started her senior session with a few indoor studio portraits. I love incorporating both indoor and outdoor portraits into a senior session to give sessions a more well rounded feel.

After the studio, we walked around our downtown area. I love taking advantage of the different light in different spots and seeing what’s going to work best for each session. It can be challenging but I need to be kept on my toes.

We stopped in the alleyway outside of Studio 9 dance studio, a spot where I’ve taken Caylee’s family portraits, and a place where she’s had her dance photos taken as well. It’s fun to look and see how she’s changed in just a short amount of time through the portraits taken in this very location.

An open field at sunset is a photographer’s dream, but it’s definitely not for the faint of heart, especially for my clients in skirts. The tall grass can be itchy and the bugs can be plentiful. Also, you basically have no idea what could be running (or slitering!) around your feet. You cannot deny though, the photos you can get make the anxiety well worth it. But, we do always make sure to work quickly…..

Caylee and her mom though that doing a few photos at the plaza in front of the fairly new Carlinville sign would be a great idea. And they were right. This whole area is being built up into a fantastic spot for photographers. But if you ever drive by and see me lying flat on the ground trying to photograph a client standing above me in front of this sign, no you didn’t.

The last stop on our adventure around Carlinville was at the football field at Carlinville High School, where Caylee is in her fourth year as a CHS cheerleader. If you ever see a man in the stands actively and loudly cheering along with the cheerleaders, you know you’ve found Caylee’s family…and specifically her dad. It’s a sight to see and wonderful to watch him support his daughter and co-cheerleaders!

We milked every bit of daylight out of Caylee’s session and left CHS after the sun had set. It was a fun time catching up with her and her mom, who I never get to see often enough. Niki, that queso date…let’s make it happen before your girl heads off to college!
