The fall of 2021 was an odd one. We waited and waited for fall color and when it finally arrived, the color we got was incredible. Better than the color we’ve had in recent years by far.

One of the first sessions I got to do this fall with some real, notable color was with CHS senior, Ariana.

We began Ariana’s session at Carlinville High School where she’s wrapping up her tenure as a four year member of the Cavalettes. When she’s not dancing, she’s working hard being an excellent student with big ambitions to work in the criminal forensics field. This basically means she loves spending time watching the TV shows that give me nightmares.

After CHS, we headed to the Macoupin County Historical Society where Ariana wanted to do some portraits up by the Anderson Mansion home. This home is gorgeous but often presents challenges when it comes to photo sessions. This day however, she gave us her best and we got some fantastic photos at and around the house.

The lighting on the grounds of the MCHS can be super stunning at sunset. I’ve been there for so many sessions, less because of the buildings and more for the gorgeous light that can be found there.

One of my favorite things about going on sessions is when I get to explore places that are new or newish to me. I love to hear about places that are important to my clients and hear the stories of their memories of times spent there. That was the case on Ariana’s session when we wrapped her session up at Carlinville Lake.

While I’ve spent time at Carlinville Lake as a young child, it’s been years and years since I’ve been there. Ariana has spent much of her childhood at the lake and knew everything about the area. I learned a lot from her and her mom that day and loved getting to find new places to photograph that I don’t often get to see.

I had the best time spending time with Ariana and her mom on session day. Ariana has an amazing personality that is quiet but also chatty. Doing her senior session was fun and calming at the same time. I can’t wait to see her wrap up her senior year and see where life takes her!
