Every photographer has heard it. When having a pre-consult with a client, we’re often told to make sure they look their best. To remove their wrinkles and even out their skin. But how much is too much? And how do we handle that here?
For me, it’s simple. If it’s permanent, it stays. If it’s temporary, it goes. For example, blemishes. I’m fine with getting rid of those because they won’t be on your face forever. But moles and birthmarks? Those stay. They’re part of you and part of what makes you unique.
Wrinkles we can minimize but I hesitate to remove them fully. Oftentimes, the client’s skin begins to look unrecognizable and unbelievable. The goal is to keep our skin looking like real skin, with texture and variances, just as it has in real life. Too much smoothing, and we start to look like china dolls!
So, the next time you come to Carrie Harris Photography for a portrait session, know that we’ll make sure you look your very best…but most importantly, keep you looking like you. Because that’s exactly how you’re meant to look!
