Sammi's summertime senior session was such a good time, however it most definitely didn't come without some challenges. We had been in touch and planned everything out perfectly. We had locations selected, knew our dates coordinated with her work schedule, we were prepared.
But then, at the last minute, Mother Nature threw us a curveball.
Which is exactly what Mother Nature tends to do when we think we're the most prepared.
This was one of those days when it was pouring in one location and sunny in another. It's when you think the storm is going to miss you but instead, it ends up unleashing its fury right above you. We were back and forth on what we should do. But Sammi wanted to go ahead and give it a try. So we did.
We loaded up and headed for the fairgrounds, because Sammi wanted photos at the fair. We drove up and were given a parking space right up front. I was beyond happy about this! I'm wearing my wellies, prepared to deal with some mud and puddles...I mean, it is the fair after all. This happens every year. But then, Lauren says something and I realize that I'd failed to notice that which she'd just pointed out.
"Why are all the lights off at the fair?"
She was right. The rides, the games, the food trucks, all which should have been awash in bright beautiful colors and lights, were dark. If we were going to do this, we'd be going with a deserted carnival theme for Sammi's session...which isn't how we wanted to roll for her senior portraits. But man, would it have made for some cool Halloween photos!
Shortly thereafter, Sammi showed up. Her hair gorgeously professionally styled and looking beautiful, while we watch lightning streak across the sky.
So, deciding the fairgrounds wasn't meant to be that night, we drove off. And decided to make that night a "bonus" session. We knew we'd have to reschedule, but since we were out, and her hair and makeup was done, let's see what we could do.
As it turned out, we couldn't do a lot. The skies kept getting darker and darker and although it never rained on us again that night, it certainly threatened to everywhere we went. It certainly seemed as though the rain clouds had it in for us that night.
Fast forward to our rescheduled session, and the weather threatened us yet again. But, not being deterred, we headed out anyway and were able to capture all of the images you're seeing in this post.
Even if it did start to sprinkle on us a little bit.
We had a great time working with Sammi and her mom this summer and are really looking forward to her fall session in October. Bring on the fall color!
